Fox Sports [03/16/2008]
Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett will likely miss the team's upcoming trip to Japan. Pitching coach John Farrell said Sunday an official announcement will be made by Boston manager Terry Francona. Farrell said the ace right-hander would throw from the bullpen mound on Thursday. The team leaves Wednesday for four games in Tokyo.

"He's ready for some game activity," pitching coach John Farrell said after Sunday's 43-pitch session.

Curt Schilling arrived at spring training Thursday to begin rehabilitating his right shoulder after apparently patching up his differences with the Boston Red Sox over the best way to treat it. Schilling met with general manager Theo Epstein, manager Terry Francona and pitching coach John Farrell. The pitcher didn't practice outdoors at the team's camp. "We just actually chatted with him," Epstein said, "and everyone seems to be on the same page.

Sports - MLB News 11/02/2007 Boston Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell pulled his name out of consideration Friday for the Pittsburgh Pirates' managing job. Farrell wants to manage in the majors, and he moved from Cleveland's front office to the Red Sox's bench last season partly for that reason. Farrell, however, said in a statement that this is not the right time to leave a World Series-winning club.
