Cincinnati Reds' Jay Bruce, right, is congratulated by Corey Patterson, left, after Bruce hit a solo home run off Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Tim Dillard in the seventh inning during a baseball game, Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, in Cincinnati. The Reds won 11-2.

A lot of big, bad numbers are slowly crushing the Milwaukee Brewers. Their mind-boggling September slide kept going Friday night, and time is starting to run out. The Cincinnati Reds piled up seven homers -- two apiece by Joey Votto and Jay Bruce -- in an 11-2 victory that made the Brewers a little more desperate.

Chicago Cubs reliever Jon Lieber walks off the field at the end of the fourth inning of a baseball game against the Cincinnati Reds, Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, in Cincinnati. Lieber had given up a grand slam to Reds' Jay Bruce in the inning.

Jay Bruce hit his first career grand slam and Joey Votto added a two-run homer Friday night, an all-rookie power display that sent the Cincinnati Reds to a 10-2 victory on a day when nothing went right for the first-place Chicago Cubs. Manager Lou Piniella got lost on his way to the ballpark. Starter Ted Lilly lasted a season-low two innings.
