Gary Sheffield 's playing left field tonight against the Red Sox. The Tigers got swept over the weekend, Jim Leyland wasn't happy, and today the Tigers got rid of .165-hitting Jacque Jones . From the ...
Twins rally from 6 down, beat Tigers 7-6 (AP)
Yahoo Sports [05/04/2008]

The Detroit Tigers left Yankee Stadium this week with the hope and momentum of a three-game sweep, but Jim Leyland was cautious. Not over the hump yet, their seen-it-all manager said. As usual, the boss was right. Joe Mauer capped a Minnesota rally from a six-run, first-inning deficit, slapping a two-run single up the middle in the seventh to lift the Twins past the Tigers 7-6 on Sunday for their...
Wilson now has plantar fasciitis
Sportsline [04/30/2008]
According to The Sports Xchange notes: C Vance Wilson is now having foot problems as he tries to return to Detroit after Tommy John surgery last June. Wilson is suffering from plantar fasciitis and can't run after progressing from his arm trouble to the point where he can make a throw to second base with no problem. "He can throw," manager Jim Leyland said, "but he can't walk." Wilson had been catching bullpen sessions and was close to being a designated hitter when the foot problem happened. It will take some time to get the foot right and then more time for Wilson to get back his timing at the plate. Only then will he be ready for a rehab assignment.

Santiago pops surprising homer
Sportsline [04/23/2008]
The Tigers know they have a lot of power in their lineup. They just didn't count Ramon Santiago among their sluggers -- until Tuesday night. Santiago homered for the first time since 2003 and drove in three runs to help the Tigers beat the Rangers 10-2. "I put a pretty good swing on that one," Santiago said of his 380-foot home run down the right-field line. "I wasn't expecting to hit one that far." Manager Jim Leyland appreciated the home run, but doesn't want his soft-hitting utility infielder thinking about hitting more. "If he starts hitting the ball in the air, he's going to be in big trouble," Leyland said. "It's OK if you hit them that far, but he's not going to hit many that far."

Tigers flip All-Stars Cabrera, Guillen in field
Fox Sports [04/22/2008]
Miguel Cabrera's tenure as the Detroit Tigers' third baseman lasted three weeks. A month after signing Cabrera to a $152.3 million, eight-year contract, the Tigers announced Tuesday night that he would be moving to first base. Carlos Guillen, an All-Star shortstop last season, will move from first base to third. "We think, at this particular time, this gives us a better team," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said after a 10-2 win over Texas.
