Jazz ready to travel difficult road (AP)
Yahoo Sports [04/17/2008]

SALT LAKE CITY -- The NBA's top home team is starting the playoffs on the road. Utah's chances at getting home-court advantage in the opening round were soundly crushed by the San Antonio Spurs in a regular season finale that showed just how vulnerable the Jazz have been on the road. Because of the 109-80 loss Wednesday, the Jazz will be opening the first round of the playoffs Saturday at Houston.
Jazz lose again on road, fall to Wolves (AP)

After another ugly loss on the road, Utah coach Jerry Sloan thinks his team might be taking a playoff berth for granted. "Obviously, if you don't win, you don't get to the playoffs," Sloan said. "People have us penciled in way too soon." Al Jefferson had 22 points and eight rebounds and Rashad McCants scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half of Minnesota's 110-103 victory Sunday over a Utah...
Harpring not concerned about minutes
Sportsline [01/16/2008]
With his right knee surgically repaired last summer for a third time, Jazz backup F Matt Harpring has spent much of the season under doctor's orders to play no more than 18 minutes per game, according to the Deseret Morning News. Harpring said Tuesday even he wasn't certain if those orders still stand. But Jazz coach Jerry Sloan continues to use him accordingly anyway. That's at least in part, it would seem, to not overtax the knee. Sloan also is juggling a glut of swingmen. Harpring who twice before this offseason had the knee repaired via microfracture surgery logged 17 minutes in Monday's win over Milwaukee. His season average is 16. Harpring refrained from calling for more minutes: "I want to do what's best for the team and I'm at the point of my career where it's about winning right now, so whatever is gonna be best is what I'm gonna do."

Miles has good view from bench
Sportsline [01/15/2008]
The Sports Xchange reports with Andrei Kirilenko's return from a back injury, Jazz G C.J. Miles went from the starting lineup to not playing at all in Saturday's victory over Orlando. The change was so drastic that coach Jerry Sloan felt the need to talk with Miles at the shootaround Monday. "I love C.J.," Sloan said. "He's worked real hard. I told him the last three or four weeks, he's worked harder than he's ever worked. That's what we hoped that he could finally grasp. He got a chance and played pretty well. I hope he can keep it going."

Sloan explains Okur's slow start
Sportsline [01/13/2008]
For the first time, Jazz coach Jerry Sloan acknowledged that Mehmet Okur's summer with the Turkish national team was at least a contributing factor to his slow start, reports The Sports Xchange. Okur came into Saturday averaging just 12.3 points and shooting a career-worst 39.9 percent. He had a season-high 29 points Saturday and left Sloan answering questions about why it has taken 30-plus games for Okur to get going this season. Sloan pointed to Okur's summer of training and games at the European championships. "To try to pump yourself up for all that sometimes that takes a little bit out of you," Sloan said, "and there's not anything you can do about it except just play."
