DUSTIN PEDROIA NEWS

Cubs, Red Sox dominate All-Star rosters (AP)
Yahoo Sports [07/14/2008]

In this July 13, 2008 file photo, six of the Boston Red Sox players who will play in the 2008 All-Star game, from left, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia, J.D. Drew, Jonathan Papelbon and Kevin Youkilis, receive jerseys on the field before the start of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles in Boston. The six will be joined by manager Terry Francona and catcher Jason Varitek.

Lou Piniella settled into the same seat David Ortiz occupied an hour earlier, ready to hold court. No place for anyone else in this corner of a hotel ballroom on All-Star media day. Sort of like the game itself -- there's a bunch of Boston Red Sox, a cluster of Chicago Cubs, and a few stragglers. Seems that way, anyhow.

Red Sox reclaim AL East lead at break (AP)
Yahoo Sports [07/13/2008]

Six of the Boston Red Sox players who will play in the 2008 All Star Game, from left, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia, J.D. Drew, Jonathan Papelbon and Kevin Youkilis, receive jerseys on the field before the start of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles, Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Boston. The six will be joined by manager Terry Francona and catcher Jason Varitek.

David Ortiz is getting ready to return to a first-place team. Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched six scoreless innings and the Boston Red Sox reclaimed the AL East lead going into the All-Star break, defeating the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 Sunday. The Red Sox moved a half-game ahead of Tampa Bay and took the division lead for the first time since June 28.

Orioles batter Buchholz, beat BoSox 7-3 (AP)
Yahoo Sports [07/11/2008]

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Brian Burres throws out Boston Red Sox's Dustin Pedroia on a grounder in the third inning of a baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston, Friday, July 11, 2008. The Orioles beat the Red Sox 7-3.

The last time he faced the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park, Clay Buchholz overcame the nerves of his second major-league start and the mounting pressure of making baseball history to pitch a no-hitter. Looks like he didn't get all the jitters out of his system. Brian Roberts greeted Buchholz with a game-opening double and was a home run short of the cycle Friday night as Baltimore knocked the Red...

Overturned triple play helps Red Sox win (AP)
Yahoo Sports [07/09/2008]

Minnesota Twins' Nick Punto, right, reacts to swinging for a strike on a pitch by Boston Red Sox's Josh Beckett as Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek, left, returns the baseball in the fourth inning at Fenway Park in Boston on Wednesday, July 9, 2008. Punto struck out on the at-bat. The Red Sox beat the Twins 18-5.

The triple play that wasn't would have been just what the Twins needed to get out of trouble. When the outs all disappeared, so did Minnesota's chances of avoiding a sweep in Boston. Dustin Pedroia hit a three-run double as the Red Sox scored seven times in the seventh inning -- all of them after a triple play was taken off the board -- and Boston beat Minnesota 18-5 on Wednesday to complete a...
